Happy New Year and welcome back.

Fabulous Performances

As we were not able to finance a whole school trip to the pantomime this year, we arranged, at the last minute, the next best thing, a visit by the theatre group M&M Productions.  Their production of Peter Pan was thoroughly enjoyed by the children and staff and many of the children produced some excellent extended writing pieces.

Thank you to the very many parents and family members who attended our Christmas performances. The children and staff had put in a great deal of effort in producing such seamless productions and really appreciated the enthusiastic applause and congratulations.

Opportunities to watch and take part in performances are two of the Pledges we promise children and they reinforce the second strand of our school vision:

Provide an enriched, adventurous and creative curriculum to support children in developing their full potential.

Wave Goodbye Say Hello

Mrs Surti who worked as a Teaching Assistant at Summerfield for twenty six years retired at the end of the Christmas term. We wish her all the best and are sure she will be popping in now and again to check up on us all. We are delighted to welcome Mrs Carmel Morrison our new Office Manager to the team.

Punctuality and Attendance

Please remember that children should always be in school unless they are unwell. Children should not take time off for holidays during term time.

We still have a small number of children who are regularly late for school.  This impacts not only on their own learning but also on the rest of the class whilst the teacher has to catch up the ‘late’ child.  The classroom doors are open from 8.45am and early morning work is provided to ensure a settled start to the school day.  Please ensure that your child is in school by 9.00am at the latest. If your child is regularly late, our Learning Mentor will be contacting you to see how we can help resolve the situation.

School Meals

These are cooked on the premises and are tasty and nutritious. The government continues to fund free lunches for all children in Key Stage 1 and Early Years.  Please encourage your children to take up a school lunch.  If you decide to send a packed lunch for your child ensure that it is healthy and well balanced. We are concerned that a small number of our younger children bring a packed lunch that seems to consist mainly of ‘treats’ such as cakes, biscuits and crisps.  As well as helping to maintain a healthy body weight, a healthy diet has a positive impact on children’s ability to concentrate and perform at their best.

If you feel you may be entitled to free school meals please contact the office for advice. In addition to a nutritious midday meal and milk, we also use the money available to subsidise school trips, visits and clubs for children on the register.

School Uniform

Thank you to all of you who support our school dress code.  Footwear is still rather open to interpretation! Our code stipulates shoes or trainers that are primarily black.  Boots although warm can be uncomfortable when worn indoors.  Please try to avoid ‘extreme’ hairstyles or over-elaborate hair decorations. Hijabs should be plain and in the school colours of black, white or red.

Chicken Update

Thank you to all of the parents who have been looking after the chickens at weekends and in the Christmas holidays. Please contact the office if you would like your name to be added to the volunteers list.  The chickens will thank you with the eggs that they lay whilst you are caring for them.

Red Way Project

Our School Council are working with a number of local schools on a project to improve the Redways. If you have any ideas or would like to become involved please contact the School Council via the school office.

Parents and Carers Welcome

Please remember that we do have an open door policy.  Come in and talk to us if you have any concerns or just to say hello!
