Summerfield School

Year 1

SPRING 2023

SPRING (1) - HAPPY HOLIDAYS

SPRING (2) - LONDON's BURNING

Children got creative this half-term. As part of our

Fireflies Class have worked really hard on their project and they all look fantastic!

So far this half term the children have enjoyed our History topic learning all about the Great Fire of London.
They had a hugely enjoyable Immersion day where they got to create fire pictures, bake bread and start to understand the significance of the Great Fire as part of British history by exploring a box of artefacts.

They also got creative and made a 17th century London building to represent The Great Fire of London. Children will be continuing to learn all about how and why London’s houses, streets and hygiene actually improved following the Great Fire.

In Literacy, children are busy making non-chronological reports. They are learning how to find information and the purpose of features such as sub headings.

In Science, children are developing their knowledge of materials and their properties and will conclude the unit by conducting an experiment where we will choose the best material for an umbrella to keep a teddy bear dry!

In Maths they will consolidate their knowledge of place value and start a new unit on measuring length and height where we will go outside for some exciting,
practical Maths investigations.
