OPAL - Outdoor Play And Learning

What is OPAL?

OPAL Introductions - JANUARY 2025

Tuesday 7th January – Whole school assembly – how free flow round the site will work.

Friday 10th January – Free Flow Friday – the children will be able to access all zones, but there won’t be any additional resources.  We will be able to practice calling older children for lunches as well as ending play times so everyone gets to learning on time.

Monday 13th January – Movement Monday – the same as Free Flow Friday – this will be an opportunity to ‘iron out’ any logistical issues that were seen the previous Friday.

Tuesday 14th January – Our First OPAL play assembly – I will go through what is on offer and where.  We will go through the rules of play and discuss possible risks.

Tuesday 14th January – OPAL goes live at Summerfield!  Seven zones will be open with different activities. 😊

In preparation for January, you may like to consider getting your child a pair of wellington boots and sending them into school in a named bag.  Two zones, initially, may be muddy.  If they are muddy, children will need wellies to access them.  If your child is prone to getting muddy, you may also want to consider sending a change of clothes into school for them to keep here.

All children must have a coat.

Please keep sending in any unwanted items from the list shared previously - we are in desperate need of scooters and dressing up (not costumes, just unwanted clothes).  If you don’t want it, we probably will!

The gift list is also still open if you would like to get something small for the school from Amazon: OPAL AMAZON WISHLIST
